Mentioning the current year in the body (not the copyright footer) is a cheap freshness cue.

Pass condition in our engine: The current calendar year appears outside footer/copyright text.

1. Problem description

We ignore footer/copyright lines because they are auto-generated. A 2026 in a heading like “SEO checklist for 2026” helps both users and models know the piece is maintained.

2. Most common causes

  • The year appears only next to © in the footer.
  • The article talks about “this year” with no digits.

3. How to fix it

  1. Put the current year in the title, H1 or a “updated in …” sentence.
  2. Update examples that still say last year.
