URL length
Short, readable URLs are easier to paste, cite and remember; very long URLs look like tracking junk.
Pass condition in our engine: The tested URL is 75 characters or fewer.
1. Problem description
Session IDs, nested categories and translated slugs stacked together produce 150+ character URLs. They wrap in SERPs, get truncated in chats, and often contain parameters that create duplicates.
2. Most common causes
- Date + category + full title in the permalink.
- Tracking parameters baked into internal links.
- Deep folder copies of the CMS tree (/shop/cat/sub/sub/product/…).
3. How to fix it
- Use a short slug: /topic-keyword, not the entire headline.
- Strip tracking parameters from internal hrefs.
- Flatten needless directories.
